Ross Taylor expects Pakistan to come out fighting in a bid to preserve its world number two ranking on the final day of the second Test against New Zealand.

Ross Taylor expects Pakistan to come out fighting in a bid to preserve its world number two ranking on the final day of the second Test against New Zealand.

The Black Caps waited until > Taylor made 102 before declaring on 313-5 at Seddon Park, setting the tourist a target of 369.

Pakistan, which will resume on 1-0 with Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali at the crease in Hamilton, must win to level the series and prevent England from climbing above it in the standings - although Alastair Cook's men would need to win their five-match series with India to do so.

"All three results are possible going into day five, and all going well you never know, that last session could be very entertaining," centurion Taylor said.

"The first 10 overs will set the tone for the match.

"They'll come out fighting. They are not number two in the world for no reason."

Mohammad Amir, who dismissed opener Jeet Raval LBW to finish with figures of 1-86 from New Zealand's second innings, endorsed Taylor's suggestion that Pakistan is motivated to preserve its lofty status.

"The ranking is very important and achieved after a lot of hard work," he said.

"We like to be among the top teams of the world and we will try our best to retain it."
