Tennis ball practice helped Bumrah bowl yorkers

"I used to play tennis ball cricket quite a lot before playing serious (hard ball) cricket. I used to bowl yorkers with the tennis ball and that could be the reason I am able to bowl them (in first class and international matches)," fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah said.

Jasprit Bumrah, who plays for Mumbai Indians, says he tries to learn from everyone.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has been playing non-stop since the tour of Australia in the first week of January, has excelled in sending down yorker-length deliveries in the end overs of a T20 match. He said practice was important to get the yorker-length right.

"You cannot master anything, I practice and execute the yorker-length deliveries. You cannot be successful with one ball. I used to play tennis ball cricket quite a lot before playing serious (hard ball) cricket. I used to bowl yorkers with the tennis ball and that could be the reason I am able to bowl them (in first class and international matches). It’s difficult to bowl continuously though. If you practice, it could be helpful."

The young speedster, who was picked for Mumbai Indians by former India coach John Wright, said he tries to learn from everyone.

"I have learnt a lot from Mitchell Johnson, Laisth Malinga and Zaheer Khan. Whenever I go to a senior bowler ,I ask questions. I don’t have a particular role model. But I learn from any bowler who has played international cricket. My mindset is the same whether I am playing for Gujarat, India or any other team. There is less pressure on me with this mindset."
