Rains and floods that battered Kerala over the past fortnight, has had an effect on cricket too with the State’s premier fast bowler Basil Thampi’s Duleep Trophy preparations being affected.
The 24-year old pacer who lives in Kochi was to join the India Blue squad in Madurai on Tuesday but couldn't make it.
The Kerala speedster was initially supposed to fly out of the city but with the airport shut, had booked a train which too was later cancelled. Thampi will now reach Madurai from Kochi by road and is set to join the squad late Wednesday night.
“My house is situated on a higher plain and thankfully there was no flooding but some of my cousins and friends houses have been flooded,” said Thampi on Wednesday.
His skipper Faiz Fazal though was not perturbed by Thampi missing the only practice session saying, “to be honest, nobody has had too much practice because of the rains around the country. Basil is a professional and I am sure he will come and deliver.”
Meanwhile, Siddhesh Lad and Ricky Bhui were added to the India Red and Blue squads respectively. The two players were part of the India A and B sides respectively in the quadrangular one-day series being played in Bengaluru. Tripura’s Smit Patel has also been added to the India Blue squad.
