Bangladesh's right-arm off-spinner, Sohag Gazi had a dream debut against West Indies in November 2011, when he picked up 3/145 in the first innings and led the comeback in the second innings with figures of 6/74. However, he ended up on the losing side as Kieran Powell's twin centuries in the match saw the visitor clinch a 77-run victory.
After putting up a mammoth first innings total of 409 on the board, it was time for the South African bowlers to deliver the goods. Right-arm medium pacer, Kyle Abbott did just that. In the first innings, he returned with figures of 7/29 to bowl Pakistan out for 156. Asked to follow on, Abbott chipped in with 2/39 as Pakistan was bundled out for 235 to concede a defeat by an innings and 18 runs.
Debutant Ravichandran Ashwin picked three for 81 runs in the first innings of the first Test of West Indies tour of India 2011 at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, but he showed his true potential in the second innings. He took six for 47 to turn around the match in India's favour by bowling West Indies for 180. India was set 275 for the win and it won by five wickets.
A spinner who has the conventional off-spinner, the doosra, the top-spinner, googly, and even the leg-spinner up his sleeve, Dananjaya took 8/44 on debut against Bangladesh. He took 3/20 in the first innings and followed it up with 5/24 in the second innings of the Test match, which Sri Lanka won by 125 runs.
Vernon Philander took 8/78 in his debut Test against Australia at Newlands, Cape Town, where the teams made two scores of below 100 and two 200-plus scores. Australia bowled South Africa out for 96 runs after scoring 284 in the first innings. The visitor was clearly on top going into the second innings, but the advantage was soon snatched by a fiery spell by the debutant. Vernon Philander rattled the Australian batting line-up and took 5/15 in seven overs. Australia was bowled out for 47 runs and slumped to an eight-wicket defeat.
Aizaz Cheema finished with a match haul of 8/103 on his Test debut against Zimbabwe, helping his team record a comfortable win. Cheema took 4/79 in the first innings and followed it up with figures of 4/24 in the second. Pakistan was set a target of 88 and it won the Test by seven wickets.
On debut, Toby Roland-Jones took 8/103 to help England beat South Africa by 239 runs. Bowling for the first time in Test cricket, Roland-Jones took a five-for in South Africa's first innings and followed it up with a three-wicket haul in the second.
Dane Piedt (third from left) played a crucial role in South Africa's nine-wicket victory over Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club in 2014. He took 4/90 in Zimbabwe's first innings and returned figures of 4/62 in the second innings, in which Zimbabwe was bowled out for 181. South Africa, set a target of 41 runs, got the job done inside three days.
Mark Craig took 8/188 on Test debut against the West Indies in New Zealand tour of the Caribbean in 2014. The off-spinner took four wickets in each innings and helped the Kiwis secure a 186-run victory.
The Mumbai-born left-arm spinner dragged New Zealand from the jaws of defeat in the first Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. Needing 176 runs to win, Pakistan was well on course for a victory. However, Ajaz Patel triggered a collapse, with Pakistan losing 7/41, and finished with figures of 5/59 in the second innings. He took 2/64 in the first, to finish with a match haul of 7/123.
