There is a possibility of Virat Kohli featuring in only couple of games for Surrey.

Looks like Virat Kohli's County stint at Surrey could be cut short. Reports earlier suggested that the India captain has been diagnosed with a herniated disc, indicating a possibility of him missing out on the England Test series, if workload not monitored properly.

But then, top BCCI officials, Sportstar spoke to, have confirmed that the injury is not all that serious and it is mostly a preventive measure ahead of the long tour to England.

And for that, Kohli, who had signed up with the County side earlier this month, could only feature in a couple of first-class games before heading to Ireland for the limited overs series. On the contrary, reports had suggested that he will miss out on the county stint.

"He may not be available for the entire stint with the county, but it is too early to say that he will not play for Surrey," a top BCCI official said.

While reports suggested that Surrey has already been informed about the development, the BCCI sources have confirmed that they are yet to apprise the county side. "The BCCI medical team is constantly keeping an eye on him and we don't want to increase his workload ahead of the Test series against England," the official said.

Surrey, meanwhile, is yet to hear anything from the BCCI or Kohli. "There's nothing yet. We are all waiting to find out more," a source at the County side, told this publication.

Kohli had decided to skip the Test match against Afghanistan in June and travel to Surrey for a county stint to prepare for the Test series. With Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Vinod Rai backing the move, the captain was supposed to stay at Surrey for a month before joining the team in Ireland for the second T20I.

But during the last stage of the IPL, the BCCI medical team told Kohli to be careful. Though BCCI sources indicate that Kohli may finally travel to Surrey for a game or two, it would be interesting to see what the club decides.
