ICC announces South Africa venues for Women’s U19, senior T20 World Cups

The ICC announced that the South Africa coastal cities of Gqeberha, Paarl and Cape Town will host the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023.

The ICC on Monday announced the venues of the inaugural Women’s U19 and Senior T20 World Cups to be held in South Africa in 2023.

The ICC said the coastal cities of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Paarl and Cape Town will host the Women’s T20 World Cup, while the maiden U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in Benoni and Potchefstroom.

10 teams will participate in the senior T20 World Cup. Host South Africa, India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand sealed automatic qualification. The remaining two spots will be filled after the qualifying tournament in September.

Bangladesh, Ireland, United States, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Ireland, UAE, Thailand and Papua New Guinea will compete in the qualifier to be held in the UAE.

Meanwhile, the marquee U19 World Cup will be a 16-team competition of which 15 spots have been secured by With 15 Australia, India, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, United States of America, Zimbabwe, UAE, Indonesia and Netherlands. The final spot will be confirmed after the Africa qualifiers in September.

Last week, the ICC had announced the first-ever women’s Future Tours Program for its 2022-2025 cycle.

A total of 301 matches (seven Tests, 135 ODIs and 159 T20Is) will be played over the period, including the global ICC tournaments (two T20 World Cups and ODI World Cup in 2025).
