Aizawl team members escape unhurt in bus accident

Newly- crowned I-League champion Aizawl FC team members on Thursday escaped unhurt when the bus carrying them to the airport met with an accident, police said.

The players were to catch a flight from Lengpui Airport, 40 kilometres west of Aizawl, as they were leaving for Cuttack to take part in the Federation Cup starting on Sunday. But the bus carrying them met with an accident, the police said.

There were no casualties and none of the players sustained injuries, police said. The mishap occurred as the driver reportedly dozed off while driving and the bus fell into a drain, according to the police.

Earlier, an Aizwal FC fan had died during the reception ceremony of the club at the Assam Rifles ground on Monday.

Aizawl takes on Chennai City FC in its first match of the Federation Cup on Sunday.
