Atletico de Kolkata has announced that it has appointed former Manchester United and England forward Teddy Sheringham as its head coach for the forthcoming season.
The two-time ISL champion parted ways with Antonio Lopez Habas, the current manager of Pune City FC, after his successful three-year stint.
Sheringham was part of the famous treble season with United when it won the Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League in 1999. He also went on to play for Tottenham Hortspur, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest in his 24-year professional career.
Mr. Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of the RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group and the team’s principal owner was delighted to make the announcement today. “I am glad to welcome our new Coach Teddy Sheringham to ATK (Altetico de Kolkata) family and strongly believe that it is going to be an enriching experience for him and the boys.
“Our endeavour to retain expertise and map out a compact team structure has been enhanced with Sheringham joining the team this season. One of the top goal scorers and an exceptional player himself I am hopeful Teddy will bring his fine planning skills to lead the way for ATK,” said Goenka.
Sheringham is looking forward to kick start his managerial career after his stint with Stevenage ended in 2016. “ I am excited to be joining ATK and can’t wait to get started . Mr Sanjiv Goenka has told me about the Indian Super League and it seems like a great place to follow your football dreams and ambitions,” said Sheringham.
