Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman said it was not for him to comment about the club's prospective participation in the newly-formed Super League.

The Catalan side was one of the 12 clubs who announced plans to form the breakaway league on Sunday. Since Tuesday eight club, including all six from the Premier League who was involved, has withdrawn. Barcelona remain one of the four clubs still part of the Super League.

Koeman, whose side is preparing to host Getafe in La Liga on Thursday, said that if anything needs to be said, club president Joan Laporta will make an announcement.

"I spoke with president yesterday, he explained the club's position. But a lot has changed," Koeman told a news conference.

"There's been a lot of fall out and the best not to say much now, no one knows what will happen. What I want most is what's best for this club.

"I'm not the club's spokesman. That's the president. My job is to prep for the game. We need to see how it all pans out. We just want what's best for the club, but if anyone has to speak about this subject, it's the president."

Koeman did, however, say he agreed with defender Gerard Pique's tweet which said: "Football is for the fans. Today more than ever."

Barca, who won the Copa del Rey last weekend, sit five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid with a game in hand and know that if they win all their remaining games this season - including one against Atleti - they will win the title.

"There's always pressure to win at Barca. You need to win and fight for trophies. We were a long way back at one point but now (in the run-in) we need to show we can win the title," he said.
