As Bengaluru FC is all set to take on Air Force Club, Iraq, in the AFC Cup final at Doha on Saturday, forward Robin Singh said his former club had proven that other Indian sides could also improve their standard by putting in a lot of hard work.

Robin, who played for Bengaluru FC from 2013 to 2015, said Bengaluru FC had set a good example for others. “The template, if any, that other clubs should take from BFC is that everything is possible if you work hard in the right direction,” Robin Singh told Sportstar .

For Robin, the achievement of Bengaluru FC, which became the first Indian club to reach the AFC Cup final, was a matter of pride for all Indians. “Not just me, the whole country is proud of BFC’s achievement. It's an even greater moment for me as I was a part of the club last year.”

India’s rise to 137th place in the FIFA rankings was also moment of pride for Robin. “Everyday is a learning curve and we will improve everyday with the help of the coaching staff. We, as players, are proud to play our part in the improvement and growth of Indian football.”

Robin said with changing times, when football had witnessed a rapid growth, better training facilities could benefit youngsters in the country.

Speaking about the Indian Super League (ISL), Robin felt the tournament had become even more popular in the current season. “In the third season we have seen growth in the popularity of the league and also the level of talent at show both from India and abroad.”

Robin, who has donned the FC Goa colours this season, said even though he missed being part of his home team Delhi Dynamos, he enjoyed the new team environment. “Delhi will always be close to my heart. It is my home and it was an honour to represent them last year. You always miss your home, but I am a FC Goa player this season and am very proud of my team and everyone involved with the club,” he said.
