Nigerian forward Eze Stanley Ifeanyi struck in the 27th minute to give Calcutta Customs an early lead. Peerless equalised off its Liberian striker Ansumana Kromah in the 67th minute but Customs secured the lead once again through Stanley's second in the 69th minute. With a defeat looking imminent for Peerless, Kromah fetched the equaliser in the 90th minute off a penalty.
The draw helped Peerless net 14 points from seven matches and keep itself at the top, ahead of Bhowanipur Club, East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting FC and George Telegraph FC. Mohammedan Sporting, which beat BSS Sporting by a solitary goal, had played a match more than the others in the group.
Defending champion Mohun Bagan came next in sixth with 11 points from seven matches. With four more rounds to go, the contest for the local supremacy is seeing an interesting development with some of the smaller teams challenging the might of the city’s big two – Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
