David de Gea has won four Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards in the past five years and is normally one of the most reliable players in the Manchester United lineup.

The Spanish goalkeeper, however, has been enduring a rough couple of weeks as he has conceded 10 goals in the last four games in all competitions.

His spill that led to Chelsea's equaliser on Sunday was his third error in his last four games. That's as many errors as in the Spaniard's 123 previous matches for United. So it's natural that his fall from grace gets noticed.

Against Chelsea, Man United had dominated most of the first half. In the 40th minute, however, Antonio Rudiger took a wild shot from distance. It should have been an easy save for De Gea, who's considered one of the safest pair of hands in the world now. The ball wouldn't stick, somehow, and Marcos Alonso was there to get to the rebound and put it past a helpless De Gea.

Not the first time

He was culpable for Manchester City's second goal in the derby. De Gea was beaten at the near post by a Leroy Sane shot. He tried to save it with his legs but the ball deflected into the top left corner as United lost the derby 2-0 and helped City back to the top of the table.

Man United didn't have an easy outing at Camp Nou against Barcelona in the Champions League quartefinals and it wasn't helped by the De Gea blunder which led to Messi's second goal. The Argentinian's shot from distance should have been an easy save but De Gea let it slip through his fingers.
