Former Uruguay star Diego Forlan announced Tuesday he is leaving Penarol after joining his boyhood club for a championship season, but said he is not ready to retire from football.
According to sources, Forlan is in talks with Indian Super League side Atletico de Kolkata to be its marquee signing for the upcoming season. "I don't know where I'm going to go next," he said. But "I want to keep playing."
Forlan spent four years with Atletico Madrid, which has a tie-up with Atletico de Kolkata, scoring 96 goals in 196 appearances and winning the Europa League title.
The Uruguayan, who retired from the national team last year, was one of his country's all-time greats, winning the Golden Ball for the best player of the 2010 World Cup.
Atletico de Kolkata had signed Portuguese striker Helder Postiga as its marquee player last season but he suffered an injury in a two-goal debut and did not play again.
