Gamble....Crystal Palace have shown faith in the volatile Adebayor, who was out of contract with Tottenham since September

As the ferris wheel that is the Transfer Window comes to a halt, the big and small teams across Europe alike have scoured the market to make additions to the squad that will either make or break the rest of the season. While some teams have made their bargain purchases, other teams have had to battle transfer bans. We, at Sportstar, take a look at some of transfer goings that have happened so far.

End of an era

John Terry has confirmed that he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season. The Blues’ skipper’s current deal runs into the end of the season, but the club has decided not to offer him a renewal.

He has said that he does not want to join another English club, but will continue playing.

Possibly in light of Terry’s impending departure, the Blues brought in 20-year-old Matt Miazga from New York Red Bulls.

Earlier, the Blues acquired the services of Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato on a six-month loan deal from Corinthians. This addition could mean Loic Remy could head to surprise leaders Leicester City in a GBP 10 million deal.

The 29-year-old wants to quit Chelsea to get more regular football ahead of Euro 2016 this summers as he looks to guarantee a place in the France squad. Interestingly, he could also end up with back-to-back Premier League titles should the Foxes do the unthinkable.

But Leicester might still reach for their chequebook as Ranieri is also hoping to rush through a GBP 2 million deal for Bordeaux defender Clement Chantome, who is out of contract at the French club come summer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has joined Norwich on loan until the end of the season. The 22-year-old was with Crystal Palace earlier this season but cut short his “terrible” loan spell after growing frustrated at a lack of opportunities under Eagles manager Alan Pardew.

Final pay day

Midfielder Ramires was another player to head out of Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea sold the midfielder to Jiangsu Suning F.C. The Chinese Super League seems to be a very lucrative destination, with West Ham United striker Nikica Jelavic expected to accept Guangzhou Evergrande’s offer.

Arsenal added to their midfield with the acquisition of Mohammed Elneny from FC Basel for an undisclosed fee. Wenger also quashed rumours that star man Alexis Sanchez is looking for greener pastures.

Newcastle and Stoke have made GBP 21million bids for Saido Berahino as the race to sign the West Brom striker hots up, according to Sky Sports .

Newcastle’s offer for the 22-year-old was understood to be a cash upfront deal for the whole amount and that was then matched, according to Sky sources, by Stoke, although their offer was structured differently. West Brom, however, maintain the unsettled striker is not for sale.

Back from the abyss

Former Tottenham striker Emanuel Adebayor, whose contract was terminated by the North London club in September, made a shock return to the Premier League with fellow London club Crystal Palace until the end of the season. The free transfer might look like a coup for manager Alan Pardew but the Togo striker has disciplinary issues.

Liverpool, very early in the transfer window, completed the loan acquisition of Steven Caulker from QPR. The defender was on loan at Southampton prior to his switch to Merseyside.

Steven Naismith left the blue half of Merseyside to join Norwich City. Everton sold the forward for GBP 8.5 million.

Double swoop

Newcastle signed Jonjo Shelvey and Andres Townsend for GBP 12 million each from Swansea and Tottenham respectively, and has sent Florian Thauvin out on loan back to Marseille.

Manchester United has been relatively quiet in the market, with the only big news being the exit of outcast goalkeeper Victor Valdes. The former Barcelona man moved to Standard Liege on loan after being left out in the cold by Louis van Gaal.

West Ham sold Mauro Zarate to Fiorentina for GBP 1.6 million. The Argentine forward has not featured for West Ham since the 1-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 10.

Zarate joined West Ham from Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield in the summer of 2014, but spent the second-half of the 2014-15 season on-loan at Queens Park Rangers after falling out of favour under then-manager Sam Allardyce.

He was reintegrated into the first-team squad at the beginning of the current campaign following the appointment of Slaven Bilic as Allardyce’s successor and has featured in 21 matches, scoring five times.
