Gerard Deulofeu turned in a lively performance as Everton eased to a 3-1 friendly win at MK Dons.

The Spanish winger embarrassed David Martin when the Dons' goalkeeper failed to control a second-minute backpass and he squeezed the ball home from a tight angle, although home defender Joe Walsh got the final touch.

Deulofeu caused havoc down the Milton Keyes left in the 19th minute before crossing for Ross Barkley to double the advantage, although Giorgio Rasulo – an early replacement for Ben Reeves – reduced the deficit after the half hour when he engineered space in the box to rifle home off the underside of the crossbar.

The score remained the same until five minutes from time when a deflected header from Everton sub Muhamed Besic looped in on the end of an Aaron Lennon centre.

Managerless Hull City needed a late goal from youngster Jarrod Bowen to claim a 2-2 draw at Barnsley.

Adama Diomande ran on to Shaun Maloney's lofted pass to give Hull a 16th-minute lead but goals either side of half-time from Barnsley's Tom Bradshaw, signed from Walsall in the close season, looked to have settled the all-Yorkshire affair.

But Bowen was on hand to convert, firing into the top left corner after trialist Peter Odemwingie opened up the host down the right.

Burnley striker Andre Gray made it five goals in four pre-season games when he won and converted a penalty to open the scoring in a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Macron Stadium.

Jay Spearing hauled Bolton level by firing home from the edge of the penalty area but Josh Ginnelly claimed a winner for the Premier League newcomer as the clock ticked down.
