Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said the prospect of Champions League football is helping the club in its attempts to strengthen in the transfer market.

Europe's premier club competition is set to return to Anfield for the first time since 2014-15 and for only the second time in eight seasons, with Liverpool third in the Premier League.

Liverpool is two points ahead of fourth-placed Manchester City, which has a game in hand. But Klopp believes Liverpool has become a much more attractive option for players.

"I think that Liverpool at this moment is a really interesting project for players. It's a fantastic club, it's a good situation where we really can see the progress of the team," he said.

"The talks we've had so far are very positive. That doesn't mean it will all work out, but they are really positive, and they all see the progress. That's good.

"We cannot say 100 percent that we will play Champions League football next year. I'm not sure, but I would say together with Tottenham, the average age of the team is such that there's still a lot to come.

"We feel in a good way, and if a player wants to be part of this way, then it's easier to make this decision this year than last year."

Klopp's Liverpool hosts Crystal Palace on Sunday.
