League Cup final: Manchester City’s road to Wembley

Manchester City swept aside Sunderland in the League Cup third round, beating them 4-1, at the Stadium of Light, on September 22. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring from the penalty spot and Kevin de Bruyne (right) also got on the scoresheet.

The goal glut continued as Manchester City hammered Crystal Palace, at the Eithad Stadium, in the fourth round fixture on October 28. Wilfried Bony, De Bruyne (centre), Iheanacho, Yaya Touré and Garcia Alonso were all on the scoresheet.

Manchester City reached the League Cup semi-finals for the fourth time in seven seasons by easing past Hull City. The quarter-final clash saw the home side put four past the hapless Hull City to set up a date with Everton. City won 4-1.

City clawed back a first-leg 2-1 deficit to beat Everton and set up a final date with Liverpool after a thrilling game at the Etihad on January 27. The host won 3-1 on the night courtesy a 76th-minute winner from Aguero (centre) past Everton's Joel Robles.
