FULL TIME: CHELSEA 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY!

Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea could not create enough chances to match a superior City side on the day. Two goals from Sergio Aguero, who scored his 200th goal for the club, won the match for City. It could have been a heavier defeat for Chelsea but for some unpolished finishing from City.

The Premier League champion is off to a good start to the season. "We prepare game by game. Our results will determine who we are. We will see at the end of the season what our level is," said Pep Guardiola.

But since 2010/11, only Manchester United has been able to win both the premier league and the community shield in the same year. Can neighbours, Manchester City break that spell?  The Premier League season kicks off on August 10.

-----------------------------------------

FULL TIME: MANCHESTER CITY WINS!

93' Kyle Walker plays Brahim Diaz one-on-one with Caballero, but his shot is straight at the keeper.

90' Four minutes of stoppage time.

89' Chelsea catches City on the counter. Barkley runs into space on the right flank and plays it into Tammy Abraham's path. Claudio Bravo saves but the ball still rolls about in a dangerous area. City eventually clears.

85' With five minutes to go, the fans are slowly making their way out of the stands. Chelsea doesn't look like it'll level the scores. At the end of the day, it's a glorified friendly.

84' Gabriel Jesus finds himself in space on the counter. His shot is straight at Caballero, who's been a busy man today.

83' Brahim Diaz shoots from the edge of the box. It's a good shot at the near post, but Caballero palms it away.

78' City has its captain on the pitch. Vincent Kompany replaces Sergio Aguero.

78' Change for chelsea- Victor Moses comes on for Pedro.

75' Another change for City. Phil Foden goes off and Brahim Diaz takes his place. Foden had gone down injured earlier. Pep doesn't want to risk him before the season.

73' Aguero strikes a volley straight at Caballero.

72' Gundogan takes a free-kick from the left. Foden heads it into the middle but David Luiz clears it.

67' Chelsea also makes a change- Tammy Abraham replaces Alvaro Morata.

67' City substitution- Gabriel Jesus comes on for Riyad Mahrez.  Two strikers for City now. Pep is going for the jugular, it looks like.

66' Mahrez goes for goal from outside the box! But his shot is just wide, missing the far post.

65' Pedro gets a stray ball right outside the box. He gets past one, but his shot is wide.

63' There is no dearth of chances at City's end. Chelsea is to be struggling to start a move.

57' GOALLL!! Aguero makes it 2-0 to City. John Stones intercepts a pass in his own half and sets up a counter. Bernardo Silva perfectly times his pass to put Aguero through and goal and he doesn't miss.

55' City's players are pressing quick and high, making it hard for Chelsea to string moves together.

53' Azpilicueta plays a good ball in from the right, but Walker send it out for a corner.

52' Phil Foden with a strike but Caballero saves it.  City is trying to re-establish dominance.

50' An easy chance for Aguero but he side-nets it! Aguero finds himself with only Caballero to beat but ponders for too long, letting Caballero close him down, and his shot hits the side netting.  This was an easier chance than his goal.

49' The game is starting to open up slowly. Chelsea also seems to be getting into the grove. Jorginho plays an inch-perfect pass to Pedro who runs into the defence.

47' The half starts off with some end-to-end play. Aguero with a chance. His shot goes wide.

SECOND HALF BEGINS: Only one change for Manchester City. Ilkay Gundogan comes on for Leroy Sane. Gundogan will slot into midfield with Fernandinho and Foden.

HALF-TIME BREAK

Aguero becomes the first man to score 200 goals for Manchester City

HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-1 MAN CITY
Manchester City took the lead through a Sergio Aguero strike in the 13th minute. Chelsea hasn't had too many clear-cut chances. Chelsea came close to equalizing only through a moment of lapse in concentration from Claudio Bravo at the end of the half.

45+1'  Bravo almost embarrasses himself!! He misjudges a long ball and it bounces over him and makes its way towards goal, but Bravo just gets there.

44' Phil Foden finds Mahrez in space but his shot, after a few step-overs, is poor and straight at Caballero. Chelsea tries to hit on the counter, but it's wasteful.

42' Hudson-Odoi tries to go past Kyle Waler on the left flank. But not too many people can beat Walker like that. It's going to be a good battle between the two speedsters.

39' Chelsea is lacking on balls in the final third. Pedro and Barkley are trying to play Morata in, but City is strong at the back.

34' Hudson-Odoi at it again! Morata's diagonal run gives him space to shoot. His powerful shot is straight at Bravo, who fumbles it, but City clears.  Bravo must have had his heart in his mouth there.

31' Hudson-Odoi with a chance! And his shot is too high, like Morata's. Pedro feeds Hudson-Odoi who has the confidence to shoot from distance.

30' City has created most of the chances so far (most of them half-chances). Chelsea has found a way into City's half only off mistakes from a City player.

25' Morata tries to level it for Chelsea, but his shot is way wide and high.

24' Another chance for City. Jorginho gives the ball away in a dangerous area. Phoden plays it to Sane who was running into the box, but Caballero gets to the ball first. Some scrappy play from Chelsea.

FUN FACT: Since Manchester United in the 2010/11 season, no team has won both the community shield and premier league title in the same season.

17' Aguero finds himself in space again and shoots, trying to find the same corner. But this time the shot isn't good enough and Caballero easily saves it. Chelsea looks troubled at the back.

16' Chelsea gets a free-kick after a foul on Jorginho. Fabregas floats it in but Bravo is first to it and clears it.

That was Sergio Ageuro's 200th goal for Manchester City.

13' Phil Foden makes a run, but nobody closes him down. He passes to Sergio Aguero, who unleashes a perfect strike into the corner from outside the box.

13' GOALLL! MAN CITY 1-0 CHELSEA

10' Man City with a chance. Mahrez is in the thick of it already. His pass to Aguero sets him up to shoot, but his shot is wide.

8' Callum Hudson-Odoi threatens City with a run weaving around a couple of them, but his shot is blocked. He'll be eager to make an impression with the new boss.

6' City's having a good spell of possession, pushing Chelsea back and keeping them there. Chelsea can't seem to get out of their own half.

4' It's been a cagey start so far with some shabby passes from both sides. They seem to be copping a feel of the pitch and new season.

1' KICK OFF! We're underway at the iconic Wembley Stadium.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The football season is upon us! Not that we missed a lot of it (because World Cup).

Chelsea faces Manchester City in the traditional curtainraiser to the English season, where the premier league champion takes on the FA Cup winner of last season.

TEAM NEWS:

The match will kick-off the official season for Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri. Will he be able to revive FA Cup winner Chelsea, which finished fifth last season after winning the title the previous year under Antonio Conte?

Willy Caballero starts in goal for Chelsea, amid speculations of a move fro Courtois. Chelsea will have a familiar back-line in Azpilicueta, Rudiger, David Luiz and Alonso. New signing Jorginho will hold midfield with Fabregas and another new signing Ross Barkley. Morata will spearhead the attack flanked by youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro.

Riyad Mahrez will play his first match in Manchester blues and it'll be interesting to see how Guardiola uses him in a team with an already-impressive list of forwards.

The Wembley showpiece usually offers few clues as to the destination of the Premier League title. No winner has gone on to be crowned champion in the same season since Manchester United in 2010-11.
