FA condemns assault of match official

An investigation has been launched after footage emerged on social media of a referee being kicked and attacked.

The Football Association (FA) has condemned an incident in which a referee appeared to be assaulted.

Footage emerged on social media of an official being chased and kicked during a match played in London.

It has been reported the incident happened at the New River sports facility in Wood Green.

"Both London FA and the FA condemn any assault on a match official and have offered support to the referee, following Sunday," the FA said in a statement. 

"The police are aware of the incident and a disciplinary process has been started."
