FIFA president Gianni Infantino has proposed an ambitious proposal to revamp the FIFA Club World Cup which would feature the top Premier League and European clubs. The FIFA's council meeting in Rwanda will review the proposal on Friday.

According to  Guardian,  UEFA is fiercely opposed to this proposal, viewing it as a direct rival to its premier competition — the Champions League. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin lambasted FIFA's proposal.

He told  Kicker , "About the so-called Club World Cup... the players are at the limit. FIFA is behaving strangely here too."

The European Club Association (ECA) had voiced its criticism over the decision to replace the existing Confederations Cup with a 'Global Nations League'.The report claims that several top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, are in favour of reconfiguring the Club World Cup.

Guardian's report revealed that the plan, which will be submitted to FIFA's six regional confederations this week, has included an option for a new club tournament with an increased number of teams every four years instead of the Confederations Cup.

The second proposal will be for the revamp of the Club World Cup to be held every year. The Club World Cup is currently played every December and features the winner of each of the six continental confederations.Real Madrid is the reigning champion.
