India bounced back from its defeat to Bangladesh to beat host Bhutan 3-0 in the ongoing SAFF U-18 Championship played at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu on Friday.
Lalawmpuia scored a brace for India. First, he made up for a missed penalty (in the 26th minute) by scoring in the 38th minute. He, then, scored his second goal with a superb strike from 25 yards in the 79th minute. Asish Rai scored the final goal in the injury time.
With this win, India is third on the table with 3 points from 2 matches in the tournament.
India, from the game's start, looked better with Bhutan unable to string together a proper attack in the first 20 minutes.
Princeton's free-kick went wide while Lalawmpuia and Edmund saw their shots either going wide or being parried by the goalkeeper.
Abhisek Halder hit the post in the 19th minute and soon after India earned a penalty, which Lalawmpuia hit over the post. A series of corners finally gave the away side the breakthrough.
India headed 1-0 into half time.
India continued its domination in the second half. Edmund shot wide while Lalawmpuia saw his attempt being saved by the goalkeeper.
The game slowed down considerably after this as both sides committed fouls. Ashish, then, scored the game's final goal in the injury time.
