Making a comeback to the World Cup after a massive 36 years, Peru had a golden opportunity to take the all-important lead when Christian Cueva earned a penalty, but the attacker fluffed the chance by blasting his shot into the stands.

Making a comeback to the World Cup after a massive 36 years, Peru had a golden opportunity to take the all-important lead when Christian Cueva earned a penalty, but the attacker fluffed the chance by blasting his shot into the stands.

Denmark hogged possession but failed to apply any real pressure on the Peru goal. Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was kept busy and made a fine save to deny Yoshimar Yotun the opener.

In the process, Schmeichel eclipsed his father, Peter Schmeichel's, record of the most consecutive minutes in goal without conceding for Denmark.
