Freudian slip is unofficially everybody's biggest enemy and it proved to be just that for Mohammed Anas.

The Ghanaian footballer made a hilarious blunder after accepting his Man of the Match award in the South African Premier Division.

Anas earned the award after scoring two goals for his side Free State Stars in the 2-2 draw against Ajax Cape Town on Friday.

After bagging the award, he said: “Firstly I appreciate my fans,” he began. “(And) my wife and my girlfriend.”

After realising the blunder he committed that would go on to dominate social media, Anas tried to salvage the situation by clarifying he intended to thank his wife.

“I’m so sorry, my wife!” he exclaimed. “I love you so much from my heart.”

"Thanks for supporting me there is more to come," he signed off before the interview came to an end much to the relief of the Ghanaian.
