The FIFA Women's World Cup had a splendid opening ceremony with over 45,000 people in attendance at the Parc des Princes to watch host France take on Korea Republic on Saturday.

No strategy prepared South Korea for a dominant French performance. The visitors conceeded four goals without scoring any.

Eugenie Le Sommer's 11th goal in her last 11 appearances for France in all competitions gave the tournament hosts an early lead in Paris.

Wendie Renard's brace pushed France up by 3 goals. The French defender netted two headers, scoring 10 of her last 11 goals for France in the same fashion.

South Korea's players assist South Korea's goalkeeper Min-Jeong Kim after she fell on the ground during the France 2019 Women's World Cup Group A football match between France and South Korea at the Parc des Princes stadium, in Paris.

Amandine Henry's goal celebration has quickly become the image of the match. Her goal in the second half was the fourth one for France against South Korea.

French head coach Corinne Diacre went into the game with very grounded ambitions. She was all smiles as her team came out on top making a strong case for its bid for the title.
