The Jockey Cup is an ‘exposure tour’ planned by the All India Football Federation and the Sports Authority of India to sharpen the squad to qualify for the next FIFA U-17 World Cup. The team has already qualified for the AFC U-16 Finals from where the top four teams will make it to the U-17 World Cup.
AIFF general secretary Kushal Das congratulated the U-16 team on winning the tourney. He said, “My heartiest congratulations to the boys and the coaching staff. I am excited by the performance of this team but now they have much sterner tests ahead.”
The team will next play a series of matches in Spain.
