India’s Under-17 World Cup team was defeated 2-1 by Estonia’s Under-18 team in Valentin Granatkin Memorial Cup on Saturday. Having lost the encounter, a play-off for staying in contention for the ninth to 12th positions, India will have to contest for 13th-16th positions.

India squandered a first-half lead in a match it dominated. In the 37th minute, Joysana helped India take the lead when his shot deflected off Estonia’s Pihelgas to roll into his own net.

Estonia equalised in the 70th minute; Sorga dribbled his way into the box and unleashing a left-footer which beat a diving Indian goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh. In the 87th minute, Estonia scored its winning goal. Following a long free-kick, Pihelgas won the second ball and blasted it into the net.
