AIFF Youth Cup: USA proves too strong for India

United States of America outplayed Indian U-16 Team preparing for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup 4-0 in AIFF Youth Cup at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco on Thursday (May 19). USA led three-nil at half-time.

United States of America scored a thumping 4-0 win over hosts India in the AIFF Youth Cup at the Tilak Maidan here today.

The goals came from William Franklin, who struck a brace, along with Chandler Vaughn and Kevin Negrete, as India suffered its second straight defeat in the tournament.

William scored after being set up by James Carleton and the forward struck past Indian goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz at the near post.

Before half-time, the team was 3-0 ahead, when Chandler Vaughn struck a rebound after an initial shot by Kevin Roberto.

In the second half, US made it 4-0 when Kevin Negrete struck near the hour mark to complete the rout.

USA, which drew its opening match against Tanzania, has four points from two matches. While India has one point from a draw and two defeats.

Tanzania holds Korea

Tanzania came from behind to hold Korea Republic to a 2-2 draw in the first match of the day.

Asad Ali Juna gave Tanzania the lead in the 11th minute which was cancelled by Korea Republic’s Shin Sangwhi in the 28th minute.

Korea then surged ahead in the 57th minute through a goal from substiute Joung Sungjune. Mauled Lembe then found a dramatic 87th minute equaliser for the Tanzanians.

Tanzania is leading the table with five points from three matches, while Korea has four points from a win and a draw.
