The Delhi Soccer Asociation (DSA) has decided to launch a new elite competition for clubs and has named it the Delhi Premier Football League. It will have six to eight teams and the criteria of licensing would be decided by March 2018.

The newly elected Managing Committee of DSA, with Shaji Prabhakaran as the President, met on Saturday and came up with a series of decisions and committees to improve football in the Capital.

A club income generation scheme would be launched and a three-member committee would look into the modalities. The DSA would make specific request to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the development of the game in the Capital and a task force will be formed for ‘’infrastructure partnership’’ by December 10.

The DSA will appoint a full time general secretary, technical director and an account by February 2018. Various other aspects like appointing coaches for the men’s and women’s State teams, making the competition calendar for the season, etc. will be addressed by various committees.

The treasurer, NK Bhatia, will be the official spokesperson for DSA. There will also be attempts to project DSA in a vibrant fashion with new branding, design etc. A welfare fund would be kept to support the needy members of the Delhi football family, especially to meet health emergencies.
