The ceremonial ticket for the much affordable Under-17 World Cup was presented by the Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel and the Spanish legend Carles Puyol to the grand daughter-in law of Shibdas Bhaduri, the captain of Mohun Bagan, at a friendly exhibition at the Nehru Stadium here on Monday.
Shibdas Bhaduri was the captain of the Mohun Bagan team which had beaten the English team, East Yorkshire Regiment in the IFA Shield final in 1911.
The ceremonial ticket will allow the family to attend any of the matches across the six cities.
“I as very excited and curious to discover the country and its people. I am glad that I didn’t only get to see India’s rich history, but also honour it”, Puyol said.
The Sports Minister said that it was just the beginning of a revolution in Indian football, and asked the people to support the World Cup by watching the matches in large numbers.
The ticket for the Under-17 World Cup will be launched on Tuesday, exactly at 19:11 hours, further as a tribute to year in which Indian football had made history. The tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis, and exclusively available on FIFA.com.
The draw for the tournament will take place on July 7.
