Chennai City FC coach Soundararajan was quite satisfied with the performance of his team against Gokulam Kerala FC in the Hero I league match at the EMS Corporation stadium here on Monday.
Coming into the match after suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Indian Arrows , Chennai bounced back to hold Gokulam to a draw . "After a heavy defeat in the first match we wanted to do well in the second. A point from an away match is very valuable. Gokulam FC is a good side and were playing at home. So it is a good result for us. We are not yet settled and of course there is room for improvement," he said.
However the coach minced no words in saying that he wasn't happy with the performance of the forwards. Though the Frenchman Jean Michael Joachim scored the equalising goal, Soundararajan lamented that the intended combination with Soosairaj often didn't happen.
"Our forwards are weak. We missed a lot of opportunities to score. There are many areas where we need to improve and one of it is finding the right combination of strikers. Hopefully we will sort it out before our next match against Minerva FC," the coach said.
Gokulam's coach Bino George rued that the absence of Bayi Kamo Stephane and Lelo Blaise Mbele, due to injury in the second half, spoiled his team's chances.
"The team combination was built around them. In their absence, we lost the advantage we had. However, I am happy with the performance as you have to understand that this club was formed eight months ago and Chennai is a pretty experienced side. Considering that, a draw is a good result for us. But we need to improve fast and score more goals," he said.
