Chennai City FC's 1-1 draw against Bengaluru FC saw a strange absentee in Haroon Amiri as the striker played no part in the feisty encounter.

At the post-match press conference, coach V. Soundararajan revealed the reason for the striker's absence. "He (Amiri) wanted to start and even refused to do the warm-up. I thought that if Amiri had played in the second half, it would have been more useful for us," he said.

'He's lying'

The player took to Twitter to deny the allegations. In a series of replies to tweets that mentioned the alleged tiff between player and coach, Amiri had said: "I never refuse he's lying I respect his decision I was ready to play but he never ask me to go."

With the issue threatening to boil over -- Michael Chopra intervening and advising the player to not air his concern on social media -- Amiri deleted the Tweets.
