East Bengal will count on its attack to win the tie against Churchill Brothers and consolidate the top spot.

Current leader East Bengal will be looking to make the most of its newfound rhythm in the attack to continue its winning run when it takes on a resurgent Churchill Brothers FC, at home in Vidyasagar Stadium in Barasat on Tuesday.

Both teams are fresh from a win in their previous matches. East Bengal downed Shillong Lajong FC 2-1 away, while Churchill Brothers got the better of Mohun Bagan by a similar margin before travelling here.

The 13th round match is expected to be interesting as Churchill Brothers tries to make a comeback under its new chief coach Derrick Pereira. This will surely give East Bengal’s English coach Trevor Morgan a lot to think about while arranging his arsenal for the action.

East Bengal has an enhanced squad of foreigners with Australian forward Chris Payne joining the attack while Trinidad and Tobago forward Wills Plaza rejoins after a brief injury lay-off. This is good news for the East Bengal fans as the Haitian midfielder Wedson Anselme is yet to regain full fitness and may have to sit out.

East Bengal needs a win to consolidate its top spot. With 27 points from 12 matches, it has only a one-point lead over the second placed Aizawl FC. East Bengal blanked Churchill 2-0 in the first phase but this happened before Pereira took over as coach. Morgan will be hoping his side gives its best and secure the win before a two-week break later this month.

Churchill Brothers has won only three matches to be sixth with 12 points from as many matches. With successive wins in the last two rounds, the visiting team will be hoping its new-found cohesion to come good again.
