Shillong Lajong FC travels to Ludhiana to face Minerva Punjab FC on Tuesday. While the host had to deal with a narrow 0-1 defeat to Bengaluru FC, Lajong was on the receiving end of a rare defeat at home to league leader Kingfisher East Bengal.

Head coach of Shillong Lajong FC Thangboi Singto along with Brazilian striker Fabio Pena attended the press conference, while Surinder Singh came along with Moinuddin, a former U-19 international player.

Thangboi Singto sounded pretty confident on finishing at a respectable position this season, “Our best finish in I-League history was sixth place and right now we are definitely going to fight for the top finish this season.”

“This isn’t my first visit here. I was here already when we played and lost to JCT, after Baljit Saini’s hat-trick”, added Thangboi Singto.

On being asked about whether three consecutive away games are going to be taxing for his boys, Singto stated that it will be a tough ride against these three teams who are performing very well at the moment.

“We played Minerva at home already, it was a tough game, but goals win you games. We are ready for the challenge tomorrow.”

Brazilian Fabio Pena also told the press that he’s raring to go and give it a shot on Tuesday where he’ll play his maiden I-League game akin to almost the entire squad.

Surinder Singh, head coach of Minerva Punjab FC, was asked about his team’s performance so far and he stated, “We had faced a steeper schedule of playing four away games on a trot at the start of the season.”

Minerva defender Moinuddin, who formerly played for the Indian U-19 side for the AFC Championships, also stated that it feels good playing for this club and it is looking for three points.
