Mohun Bagan kept their winning run unscathed in the Hero I-League 2015-16 as they completely outplayed Salgaocar FC in a 4-2 victory at the Barasat Stadium here on Saturday.

First half goals from Yusa Katsumi (9’), Cornell Glen (28’), Luciano Sobrosa (33’) and a Balwant Singh strike early into the second half (48’) were enough to secure the three points. However, late strikes from Daryl Duffy (69’) and Gurjinder Kumar (86’) gave Salgaocar a faint ray of hope but to no avail.

It was the champions who started the match on a positive note, and after winning a couple of corners, Katsumi Yusa was in prime position as he started off the scoring for Bagan in the 9th minute with a fine shot from inside the box.

Daryl Duffy then had a chance to level the score in the 14th minute after Jackichand Singh had teed him off, but Debjit Majumder read the situation well, as he smothered the ball.

Gurjinder then conceded a soft penalty against Glen who made no mistake as he himself converted the spot kick, two minutes from the half-hour mark.

It got even better for the ‘Green and Maroon’ as Katsumi Yusa’s corner was brilliantly headed in from a tight angle merely five minutes later, by none other than former Salgaocar skipper Luciano Sobrosa, who also made his debut for Mohun Bagan.

Just after the half-time break, another Katsumi corner wrecked havoc in the opposition penalty area and this time it was Balwant who put the ball into the net with a towering header in the 48th minute.

Comeback?

Duffy got one back for his side in the 69th minute after a cheeky Jackichand chip saw him being played on, in spite of strong protests for offside. The Scotsman made no mistake as he smashed it past an advancing Debjit.

The comeback did not happen for Malky Thomson’s men but Gurjinder got himself a consolation goal four minutes from time as he powered a shot past Debjit off a rare corner.

Mohun Bagan go marching from the smart performance before the all important Kolkata derby, while Salgaocar are yet to register a win this season.
