Salgaocar hopes for a repeat performance against Mumbai FC after its 3-1 win over East Bengal

After having won convincingly against East Bengal, Salgaocar FC will be looking for another good performance and move up the ladder when it meets Mumbai FC in the I-League football on Saturday.

Salgaocar FC, following a defeat to Mohun Bagan, bounced back to beat East Bengal 3-1 in its previous match to move from the bottom of the table to eighth place with as many points from 10 matches.

Salgaocar received a setback early in the match against East Bengal when the team lost its main striker Darryl Duffy due to injury, but Thongkhosiem Haokip made up for his absence scoring twice to give the team its first win at home. Duffy, who has been their highest scorer with nine goals, suffered a groin injury and will be out of action for three weeks. Defender Eder, who did not have a good match against Mohun Bagan, was at his best against East Bengal and kept Ranty Martins quiet, besides making a goal line save to deny Jairu.

Salgaocar FC coach Santosh Kashyap will be hoping for a repeat performance. “Our team has been performing well, creating chances but lack of scoring has either led to our defeats or draws. The win against East Bengal has raised the confident of our boys and with Mumbai FC not doing well of late, we have a good chance to win tomorrow at home,” stated Kashyap.

“The attitude of the boys is positive and the morale is high right now and we want to carry forward the winning momentum. They are a fighting team, we have lost in our away games, but now we have our home games. That’s an advantage and we will make the most of it.”

Mumbai FC, after a good start, struggled midway into the league as they collected just three points from their last six matches to remain on fifth place with 11 points from 10 games.
