The owner of three I-League ‘Golden Boots’ Onyeka Okolie Odafa returned after the break of a season while signing his allegiance with the Second Division I-League club Southern Samity.

Odafa, who scored more than 150 goals in the history of NFL/I-League, will be spearheading the team’s attack in the final stage of the Second Division I-League, which is scheduled to start in the first week of April.

Dubbed as the most expensive footballer of Indian club football once, Odafa was left without a club in the last two seasons as recurrent injuries coupled with age kept him out of selection. “It does not matter where I am playing, Odafa is still Odafa,” was how the owner of most number of hat-tricks in I-League announced his return.

“I have won all the trophies in India except the Federation Cup. I am still looking for new challenges, which is why I agreed to play in the Second Division I-League this time,” he said during a news conference arranged by his new club.

Odafa praised the progress made by the little-known Aizawl FC, which is currently leading the standings with 30 points in the I-League proper, saying that its coach Khalid Jamil is “doing a great job”.
