Sources: Mumbai City FC to appoint Guimaraes as coach

Guimaraes played for Costa Rica at the 1990 World Cup in Italy and also managed the national team at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups.

According to sources, Indian Super League club Mumbai City FC is in talks with former Costa Rica coach Alexandre Guimaraes to take over as coach for the next season.

Guimaraes played for Costa Rica at the 1990 World Cup in Italy and also managed the national team at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. He has also coached at a domestic level in the UAE and China apart from his native Costa Rica.

Guimaraes's son Celso Borges plays for Deportivo La Coruna in Spain and also for the Costa Rican national team.

Mumbai City FC finished seventh and sixth in the first two editions of the Indian Super League. In the first season, it was coached by former Everton and England midfielder Peter Reid before journeyman striker Nicolas Anelka took over the following season as player-manager.
