Sunil Chhetri is hopeful of a good show when the club takes on Tampines Rovers FC, in the quarterfinals of the AFC Cup to be held here on September 14. The BFC and India star spoke to the media on the sidelines of the Youth Football Cup inter-school tournament here on Thursday.

Playing under the new coach:

It takes a little time to adjust to his system, but we are getting there. We were with a wonderful coach (Ashley Westwood) for three years, so it’s not easy to change immediately. We’re trying our best to understand what Roca wants us to do on the field. With his background (Roca has worked in the Barcelona coaching staff), you know that he wants us to keep possession of the ball.

New signing, former Real Valladolid player Alvaro Rubio:

Alvaro has 300 La Liga games under his belt. He’s played with the Ronaldos and Messis week in, week out. Also, we have Eugeneson Lyngdoh - a superstar. The midfield looks really strong. The only worry for us is to understand and execute what the coach wants. As far as AFC Cup experience goes, we aren’t worried because we have John Johnson, Juan Gonzalez, Alvaro and Cameron Watson. Then there’s also Udanta Singh with his pace.

The national team’s recent 4-1 victory over Puerto Rico:

It has given us confidence, especially the way we came back after being a goal down. It’s good to play competitive games before you start a season.

Playing alongside Uruguay superstar Diego Forlan in Indian Super League franchise, Mumbai City:

It is huge. I am a big fan of Forlan and I keep getting updates about Mumbai City FC. But as of now, I’m focussing only on Tampines Rovers.
