FIFA U-17 WC: LOC volunteer programme proving to be a great success

The Local Organising Committee had launched its volunteer programme on March 6, 2017, providing an opportunity for thousands of Indian and international volunteers to be a part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017, India's first-ever global football tournament.

The Local Organising Committee had launched its volunteer programme on March 6, 2017, providing an opportunity for thousands of Indian and international volunteers to be a part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017, India's first-ever global football tournament.

The programme till now has been a great success as Javier Ceppi, the tournament director of the LOC confirms, "The response has been very encouraging. We have already received more than 20,000 applications and the numbers should only go higher from here on.

“There have been talks about the fact that a significant amount of people are well aware that the tournament is happening and they are willing to give their time for free to make the tournament something remarkable.”

Till now the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 has seen registrations from 68 countries across the globe with the highest number of applications coming from New Delhi followed by Mumbai and then Kolkata. The oldest volunteer for the programme is a 72-year-old football enthusiast from Goa.

So far the city of Kochi is favourite for applicants with it being the choice host city for the maximum number of applicants nearing eight thousand in total.

The main areas of duty volunteers have applied for are Competition management, Marketing operations, Accreditation and Information Technology. The application process is open until 15 May.
