Vinicius Junior, the teen sensation from Flamengo who was snapped up by Spanish giant Real Madrid for nearly £40 million in May, was named in the Brazil squad for the upcoming FIFA under-17 World Cup in India.
The deal had made the then 16-year-old the second-most expensive export from the Brazilian league with the first being Neymar, who moved from Santos to Barcelona in 2013 for more than double the sum. But this time, Real was said to have beaten off competition from both Barcelona and Manchester United for his signature.
Junior, who had made just one senior appearance for Flamengo when he signed for Real, caught the eye at the South American Under-17 Championship, where Brazil emerged the champion and he was the leading scorer with seven goals.
Brazil will open its World Cup campaign in Kochi with a clash against fellow heavyweight Spain on October 7.
