MATCH REPORT|

Marco Pezzaiuoli: The first half was the worst game we have played in my time here. We lost the first duels and the second balls. When we had the ball we had no idea what to do with it. At half-time, I told the boys to forget it, come out and start new in the second half. We saw in the second half how BFC can play. One of our problems today was that we did not look for our teammates in the final third. Cleiton had some good chances but did not see Sunil 3-4 times in the box lines, normally that's the area where Sunil can score. I told the boys after the game that it was a good second half, we had enough chances to make it 1-1. Told them to start recovering and focus on next game against FC Goa because that will be a difficult game.

RELATED|

Manolo Marquez : I am very happy because today was more or less...we played the first half very well but suffered a lot in the second half. BFC attacked a lot in the end and we defended well. Fortunately for us, we won the game.

Souvik Chakrabarti : This is a complete team effort and we all played really well. We are happy with the three points and are looking forward to the next game. As a team, we are progressing game after game. We have 2-3 days rest now ahead of the next match and these three points will give us more energy to go ahead. This win will give us more motivation going into the next game.

Cleiton Silva : I think I could do a better job. Unfortunately things are not going the way I wanted then to. But no regrets - face front, chin up and look ahead to the next game. We managed a good second half but we missed a bit of fight in the first half. Things have not started well but we have many games remaining, we have a chance to improve as a team. We should not think too much about today's game, the second half was good and we need to try to play both halves of games in the same way and that way we can win games.

Chinglensana Singh: It was a very open game. We started well in the first half, we had good chances but only converted one. We kept a clean sheet CS in the first half  and the idea was to do same in the second half - to stay compact and look for chances upfront. BFC was pushing to equalise and take the game away from us. They pressed high but we defended well and managed to keep a clean sheet. I am happy about it, it was good win today!

[On Juanan's role in the team] Juanan knows BFC very well and has a great experience and we get a learn a lot from him.

An enormous win for Hyderabad FC as the victory propels the side to the third spot in the ISL standings. The result extends Hyderabad's unbeaten run to three games, while Bengaluru FC is now winless in four games and slips to the ninth spot. This is Hyderabad FC's first win over Bengaluru FC in the five times the two sides have played each other.

FULL-TIME! Hyderabad FC beats Bengaluru FC 1-0.

90+5' That's a game-saving block from Kattimani! He bravely races off his line and parries the ball away to deny Bengaluru a chance in the dying embers of the game.

90+2' A crucial block from Asish here as he blocks Jayesh's shot. The ball strikes Asish's elbow in the process, though his arm was in a natural position, and the Bengaluru players want a penalty but the referee says nothing doing.

90' The fourth official signals for five minutes to be added on.

89' Siva Sakthi comes on for Suresh as Bengaluru FC makes one more gamble at the death.

87' Bengaluru FC has done everything but find the back of the net. Cleiton and Chhetri have been off colour yet again and have struggled to really trouble the opposition 'keeper.

86' Triple change for Hyderabad FC -

IN: Edu Garcia, Aaren D'Silva, Sahil Tavora

OUT: Juanan, Souvik, Poojary

83' That was almost an own goal from Chinglensana! Aniket goes into the refs book for a foul on Parag and Bengaluru takes the freekick quickly. Jayesh fires a fine cross from the right wing and Chinglensana's attempted clearance just about floats over his goal.

80' That's some strike from Suresh! He cuts the ball onto his left foot and strikes it really well. His shot takes a slight deflection off Danish and swerves towards the top corner before Kattimani swoops in to make the save.

78' Bengaluru is throwing men forward in search of the elusive equaliser but just can't find a way past this Hyderabad defence.

76' Change in personnel for Bengaluru as Parag Shrivas comes on for Ashique.

74' Chianese races towards the Bengaluru goal and makes room to shoot before being shoved by Suresh. Chianese asks for the free-kick but the referee says play on.

71' Just over 20 minutes left and Hyderabad FC makes its second change of the game - Aniket Jadhav replaces Danu.

69' Bengaluru wins its fifth corner of the evening...but nothing comes from it.

66' First change of the evening for Hyderabad FC as Joel Chianese comes on for Siverio.

66' Mishra, who has been the best player on the pitch by a country mile, is getting some medical attention now.

64' End to end action here as Bengaluru launch into a counter attack following a Hyderabad free-kick. Jayesh plays a diagonal ball down the centre and Cleiton latches on to it to shoot but his attempt takes a deflection and lands safely into Kattimani's gloves.

61' That's a shocking miss from Cleiton. Danish does well to receive a lob and plays it for Cleiton, who brings the ball down with finese. The Brazilian makes room for himself and lets one rip but fails to trouble the 'keeper.

60' Bengaluru FC showing a lot of purpose in the second half. The build up play has been on point and the attack has finally found some sort of fluency.

57' Joao has a crack at goal from distance and Chhetri, rather uncharacteristically, gets a cheeky foul on Asish. He's lucky to escape a booking there.

56' That's the best move of the game fro Bengaluru FC. It's a quick turn of play as Jayesh and Bruno combine really well and the Brazilian lays it for his compatriot Cleiton. He gets a shot off on the turn but it lacks any real venom.

54' Ogbeche chests a long ball down and lays it for Souvik, who has an ambitious shot from distance. The ball sails into the empty stands. Souvik has scored one goal in 91 games.

52' Ogbeche makes space for himself and fires a low shot outside the box. Gurpreet is up to the challenge as he dives to his left to make a comfortable save.

51' Asish makes a strong run down the middle and releases for Ogbeche....but the Nigerian is offisde.

47' Save! Ashique's aerial ball is cleared away which falls for Cleiton. Cleiton takes a shot, which dips to almost get in, but the HFC keeper, Kattimani, pushes it out for a corner in the last minute. The corner that follows comes to nothing with a goal kick.

46' Second Half Begins!

That brings us to the end of the opening half as Hyderabad FC heads into the interval with a 1-0 lead. Hyderabad took the lead in the seventh minute through Ogbeche and went on to dominate proceedings for large parts of the opening 45. Bengaluru showed glimpses of the attacking threat they pose and had a couple of half chances but has managed only one shot so far. Everything to play for in the second half!

HALF-TIME! Hyderabad FC leads 1-0.

45' Rane plays a stunning incisive pass for Roshan on the right, but the latter's cross is a poor one that sails out of play. Three minutes to be added on.

43' Bengaluru wins a freekick on the left edge of the box and Cleiton takes it. He goes for the near post and Chhetri manages to get a header but can't find the target.

41' That's great defending from Ashique. Danu drills in a low cross from the left towards Poojary and Ashique puts his body in the way at the right time to deny his opponent a shot.

38' Suresh also picks up a yellow card as he brings down Danu on the left flank. Free-kick for Hyderabad!

36' Bengaluru FC coach Marco makes an early change as Danush Farooq comes on for Edmund.

34' The Blues have been very jumpy at the back so far. The defence has looked anything but convincing and has been very uncoordinated.

31' WHAT A CHANCE FOR SIVERIO! Ogbeche does oh-so-well to play a delicate chip that released Siverio into a 1v1 position with Gurpreet. The Spaniard attempts a shot with his left foot but cannot keep it on target. That should have been 2-0 to Hyderabad!

29' Roshan becomes the first player to go into the ref's book as he hacks down Akash. The Bengaluru players simply cannot keep up with Akash's pace!

28' Cleiton curls in a long corner but Souvik heads it away with ease. Bengaluru yet to create a clear chance here.

26' Good work from Danu. He bombs down the left flank and shrugs off his marker before crafting a looping cross. There's no yellow shirt at the end of it, though.

24' The good news is Juanan is fit to resume playing. Looks like he just needed a change of boots...

23' That's not good for Hyderabad! Juanan appears to have injured his ankle. The former Bengaluru defender has been a pivotal part of Hyderabad's back-line this season.

20' Akash Mishra has been an absolute force to reckon with on the left. The youngster has been solid in defence and an absolute menace on the flank. He's made a couple of marauding runs and the Bengaluru players have struggled to keep up with him.

18' Fantastic save from Gurpreet! He bravely throws his body to collect the ball before an onrushing Ogbeche can get to it. The Bengaluru defence should have dealt with that ball better.

15' Bengaluru yet to make an impact on this game. The Blues have been forced to chase the ball for large parts of the opening quarter.

12' Ogbeche takes his ISL goal tally to 38 now! He is the third-highest goal-scorer in the league and trails Chhetri, who he is playing against today, by nine goals. The Nigerian had scored eight goals in Mumbai City's title-winning campaign last season.

9' Hyderabad FC has dominated the proceedings so far and the early goal will serve as a massive confidence boost for the side. The Nizams have over 60% of possession and have not allowed Bengaluru to create any chances yet.

7' OBGBECHE SCORES! Akash creates the chance with a fine run down the left and finds Ogbeche. The Nigerian striker sets himself up well and unleashes a powerful drive that takes a deflection off Pratik's studs and beats Gurpreet.

6' Poojary floats in a lovely ball into the box but it evade Ogbeche and Siverio. Danu, making his first start, tries to bring the ball down and have a crack at goal but is unable to pull it off.

4' A strong start fro Hyderabad FC. Manolo's side has pressed high and created a couple of half chances. Ashique has been kept busy on the left.

2' A very interesting kick-off routine from Hyderabad as the side quickly launches into an early attack.

1' KICK OFF! Hyderabad FC dons its yellow home kit, while Bengaluru comes out in all-whites.

7:15pm: Bengaluru FC skipper Sunil Chhetri is yet to open his season's tally and has missed two penalties this campaign. Can Chhetri find the back of the net today?

MATCH PREVIEW: Desperate Bengaluru seeks revival in clash against Hyderabad

Bengaluru FC and Hyderabad FC will both look to return to winning ways when they lock horns at the Bambolim stadium on Wednesday.

The situation is especially grave for BFC, which is coming off a 1-3 defeat against Mumbai City FC and has collected just one point from the last three matches. Hyderabad, also on four points but having played a game less, will hope to build on a lucky 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC in its last match.

BFC coach Marco Pezzaiuoli insisted that the team was on the right track, but will soon need some results to back it up.

“We played our best game so far against Mumbai City,” he said, on Tuesday. “We played according to our style. We pressed very high, moved fast and the counter-pressing was good.”

“But what I was not happy with was the defending and set-pieces part, because the first goal which we conceded, we could have defended better.”

In the media briefing after the Mumbai City game, Pezzaiuoli said Gurpreet Singh Sandhu ought to organise his defence better and eliminate individual mistakes. So, all eyes will be on the India No.1 goalie, who has had a forgettable start to the season.

Centre-back Yrondu Musavu-King has not played the last two matches and is a doubtful starter against Hyderabad. Fellow defender Sarthak Golui has left the ISL bio-bubble because of a family emergency. There are also fitness concerns over winger Udanta Singh.

Talisman Sunil Chhetri has been off-colour, and, uncharacteristically, missed two penalties. But such is his class and quality that he is sure to get a longer rope.

For Hyderabad, the match presents an opportunity to calm the waters. Manolo Marquez’s side was excellent in its win over Mumbai City, but played an underwhelming first-half against Jamshedpur, which the coach himself called “the worst since he became manager” in 2020.

Bartholomew Ogbeche’s second-half strike saved the day but the Spaniard admitted that his side needed to be more consistent.

“The positive thing was the reaction of the team in the second half,” Marquez said. “When you have a very good first half and don’t play well in the second half, usually you are angry with the performance. But if the second-half performance is good, the mood is different.”

“In the last two games, we conceded the first goal and showed that we can come back. But we can’t be satisfied with the first half (vs. Jamshedpur).”

He can bank on the wisdom of centre-back Juanan, who until recently was a defensive mainstay for BFC and even worked with Pezzaiuoli until June. But Marquez will miss the services of Halicharan Narzary and Mohammad Yasir, both of whom are injured.
