Goa also had a goal disallowed for off-side, which was a result of sublime passing between Jesus and Eduardo Bedia down the middle. The former finished the move with a controlled tap into the net, only to find the linesman flag up.

Jesus brought the match back to life with the equaliser for the visitor out of the blue. Ferran Corominas threaded a pass down the middle for his teammate to shoot home on the turn. Mumbai went ahead again through Thiago Santos in the 88th minute to seal victory.

The contest between league toppers last season and the eighth-placed visitor started on a brisk note, backed by roars of support from respective fans in the stands. Mumbai worked hard on blocking routes to goal. Goa midfield and forwards got busy trying to make inroads.

Amrinder Singh under the Mumbai woodwork experienced anxious moments in the 20th minute when Manuel Lanzarote found Corominas with a scooped pass into the box. The latter controlled the ball, but a sliding tackle by captain Golan foiled the threat.

Then, Balwant Singh drilled a shot towards Goa custodian Kattimani after creating space for a left-footed shot. Mumbai backline showed nerves keeping watch over slippery forwards. Marciso Nascimento got a yellow for a vicious foul. Santos moved clear with the ball at the other end, defender Mohammed Ali recovered in time.

Goa finally broke through with a move down the right. Manuel curled a pass around the blue shirts in defence. Ahmed Jahoh moved into space and fired, the ball rolled back after a Gerson Viera block for Ferran to fire the rebound. Amrinder was in position for a reflex save, oozing confidence.
