FC Pune City succeeded in convincing captain and star forward, Marcelinho, for the Indian Super League 2018-19 season. He formed a breathtaking combination with Uruguay's Emiliano Alfaro, also deciding to continue with the orange and blue team. Eight goals and seven assists in 17 matches for the franchise were noteworthy, the Brazilian led the side from the front into a first-time semifinal place.

The former said: “I am excited to join FC Pune City again. The club is now my second home. We created history last season and our goal for the coming season would be to match and better the performance. I can’t wait to take the field at Balewadi in front of our fans, the Orange Army.”

Gaurav Modwel, the franchise CEO said: “You can’t let go the best you have. In Marcelinho, we not only have an impressive footballer, but also a team player and leader par excellence. His performance created a lasting impression on both the club and the fans. We are confident he will continue from where he left last season.”

The speedy Brazilian started for Delhi Dynamos in ISL as a forward, then became more effective at FCPC in a more responsible and versatile role, allowed to demonstrate both creative and scoring capacity by chief coach Ranji Popovich, who is now replaced by another Brazilian, Marcos Paqueta.

FCPC came up with a mix of attacking and entertaining football last season, with the two foreign players showing the way to dominating rival defences. The qualities in Marcelinho and Alfaro also allowed fellow Indians to flourish in attacking roles, among whom Adil Khan and Ashique Kuruniyan deserve mention.
