Marco Materazzi's Chennaiyin FC is at the bottom of the ISL table with just 3 wins from 9 games.

Bottom-placed Chennaiyin FC are hoping for a turnaround in Kolkata, something that will keep their playoff hopes alive in the second edition of the Indian Super League football tournament.

“We are still not able to play to our potential but we’re still hopeful of a turnaround. Two-three wins can turn the table,” head coach Marco Materazzi told a news conference on the eve of their match against Atletico de Kolkata.

Materazzi admitted that conceding seven penalties from nine matches have been a cause of concern for them, who have 10 points from nine outings to lie bottom of the table. “Of course, it’s a worry that we have conceded seven penalties from nine matches. Barring the NorthEast game, which all of you have seen was a refereeing error, the rest of the penalties that we conceded is something we’re worried about.”

Elano Blumer has scored four goals from nine matches so far and the coach backed his marquee player. “Elano is having a decent run. He has four assists and four goals so far. It’s not just about one player but the the whole team should come together and that should be our focus.”

The Italian further condemned the terrorist attacks in French capital Paris and said a win would not only be a gift to their French defender Bernard Mendy but to the whole team.

“If we win tomorrow we will move to fifth place and it’s all about keeping on going. What happened in Paris was very tragic and cruel. But if we win tomorrow, we would gift it to the whole team and not just to Mendy. We’re always very close to our French friends anytime,” he signed off.
