It is no secret that India is emerging as a lucrative sporting venue. And one sport that is big on its agenda is football. With youngsters today keeping a keen eye on the action in the Premier League, La Liga and other major football attractions, it suffices to say that the sport has started to take the centre stage, even in India, where football is considered second to cricket in terms of popularity.

Acknowledging the financial clout of the Indian market and the sheer numbers of the audiences, El Clasico, La Liga’s most anticipated match between arch-rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, has been scheduled on 23 December 2017 at 5:30 pm IST.

It is noteworthy that India is 4 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Spain, meaning the contest will get underway in the afternoon (local time: GMT+1).

The rejigged schedule is a testament to India's increasing influence in the world of football and Javier Tebas, president, La Liga said as much. "A match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona always generates a tremendous amount of interest around the world. We want the many La Liga fans in India to enjoy the match as if they were in the stadium.

It will be an event for fans of both teams, and La Liga in general, to engage with the best football match in the world. We are sure that it will be an unforgettable experience. It's a great way to be closer to the Indian fans," Tebas said.

The live coverage of the game will begin at 4:30 PM on SONY TEN 1 and SONY TEN 2 channels.
