Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo faces up to six months out after undergoing surgery for a knee injury sustained during last weekend’s loss against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Swiss international had already been ruled out of the World Cup, where he would likely have served as back-up to Yann Sommer who is currently sidelined by an ankle problem.

“The operation went perfectly. The length of his absence is estimated between four and six months. It will depend on his recovery,” Lorient coach Regis Le Bris said on Friday.

Former Arsenal keeper Vito Mannone is expected to fill in for Mvogo, who had started every game for Lorient since his arrival from RB Leipzig in July.

Lorient, who have never finished higher than seventh in Ligue 1, won six games in a row between September and October and briefly sat level on points at the top with PSG last month.

They have dropped to sixth after a four-match winless run including Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by PSG in which Mvogo hurt himself while at fault for the opening goal.
