Chennaiyin FC heaped further misery on F.C.Goa, defeating the visiting team 2-0 in the third edition of Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Thursday.

This result marked FC Goa's third consecutive loss in the tournament.

Zico, the FC Goa manager, looked quite disappointed after the match. "It was a game of few opportunities. Both the teams had less chances but the difference in the end was capitalising on them which I think Chennai was able to do by scoring the two goals," he said.

While F.C. Goa was unable to maintain pressure on its opposition and didn't prove to be effective in terms of creating chances for the goal, Chennai showed immense improvement in its tactics and defending as well.

"Right now, nothing is going in our favor but that's how it is. We have to forget about these losses and focus on improving ourselves for the upcoming matches in the tournament. We have lost nothing, it is just the starting of the season," Zico said.

After registering its first home victory, Chennaiyin FC finally opened its account and coach Marco Materazzi was quite satisfied with the performance of his players.

He said: "In this match, we came out with a different mentality and mindset and focused on the key aspects of the match which we were not able to execute in our previous match against Delhi."

"If we do the hard work, fight for every ball and put in the right amount of effort, then results do come in team's favor."

On being asked about the fitness of the players and the dilemma of selecting the combination of best eleven, Materazzi said, "We got three-four days to recover between our previous two matches but now we have a week's time before our next match. So we will be able to decide on whom to give rest and the best eleven will be picked for the upcoming matches."
