Andrea Pirlo says he would repeat the mistakes he has made in a disappointing first season as Juventus coach, as they will help him improve in the future.

The Turin club beat Napoli 2-1 on Wednesday to climb into third place in Serie A, a result that relieved pressure on Pirlo after picking up one point from games against lower-table sides Benevento and Torino.

However, Juve’s nine-year stranglehold of the Serie A title looks set to end under Pirlo’s leadership, as it is 12 points behind leader Inter Milan with nine games remaining.

The 41-year-old former World Cup-winning Italy midfielder had no coaching experience before joining the Turin club last summer.

"I have got a lot of things wrong, but I would do them all again because the first year as a coach is not easy," he told  Sky Italia .

"You throw yourself into it with your ideas and try to have things in mind to transmit to the team. Sometimes you do well, sometimes you make mistakes.

"This year a lot of things have happened, I think it is the most complicated season not just for me but for everyone, for a lot of reasons.

"I made mistakes like everyone does, but I can draw conclusions from them and not repeat them in the future."

Juve was knocked out of the Champions League by Porto at the last-16 stage, but can still clinch silverware this season when it faces Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final in May.

Pirlo was asked if the objective in the league is now to simply secure a top-four spot that would secure qualification to European football’s top club competition next season.

"For now that is the objective because finishing on top is difficult," he said.

"We have set ourselves the goal of doing great things over these 10 matches, to win this mini-league, in order to prepare ourselves for the Coppa Italia final.”
