Memes, GIFs or just plain wit in 140 characters — Twitterati have always worked overtime to spread some good laughs all around. But a considerate Paul Pogba made sure they needn't work that hard after his sloppy performance for Manchester United against Liverpool — he already had his own emoji and a hairstyle to match. It was the perfect fodder for the trolls.

On Friday, the trend-setting Frenchman became the first footballer to have his own emoji on Twitter.

“I am happy and thankful for this opportunity, " he said. "Let's have fun and kick some ass at #pogba”, he announced through his social media handle.

With delirious enthusiasm, he honoured the occasion with yet another hairdo to match the emoji. He styled it up with a series of P's shaved on one side with a 'P' coloured yellow on the other. Manchester United was planning to go full out to promote the emoji of its most expensive player. #Pogba (with the emoji ) was to be splayed across the digital hoardings of Old Trafford throughout the match.

Oh, how it all misfired!

On Sunday, against Liverpool, Pogba played his worst. He gave away a penalty with a clumsy handball, missed a easy opportunity to score and his defensive play was weak. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late equaliser helped Manchester United save the blushes, but Pogba was not to be spared.
