Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo may play at the Greenfield stadium here sometime this year. The Thiruvananthapuram District Football Association (TDFA) president Sivankutty MLA confirmed that Greenfield stadium was being considered as venue for Portugal’s friendly match, which has been allotted to India by FIFA.

The All-India Football Federation has allotted the match to Kerala Football Association (KFA) which in turn has approached TDFA for hosting the match.

Sivankutty said that after the successful conduct of the SAFF Suzuki Cup football championships, more national level tournaments will be held at the Greenfield stadium. The India-Turkmenistan World Cup qualifying match will also be held at the Greenfield stadium in March. An all-India under-19 football tournament will also be held at this stadium.

The TDFA president said the association plans to start two football academies this year. One of the academies will be exclusively for children belonging to families of low income group. He also said that DFA will supply coaches to interested schools. Sivakutty said that school children will be allowed free entry to watch the final of the SAFF championship. The students should bring their identity cards and entry will be through Gate number one at the stadium.
